Four Old Bawn Gymnasts to Celtic Cup 2012!!
More great news for Old Bawn. The Celtic Cup delegation was announced on Tuesday and we can now announce that FOUR of our gymnasts have been selected to represent the Republic of Ireland at the competition. As a club we will have the biggest representation at the competition which is great testament to the hard work of the gymnasts and coaches over the past year.
On the Junior team we will have Beth Gillmor, who has been selected onto the team for the 5th year in a row, and Ali Kavangh who has returned from a difficult injury to regain her place on the team this year. This will be Ali’s 4th time to compete at Celtic Cup. On the minor team we have Shauna Kelly and Katie O’Hara who have both only moved up to full FIG level competition this year. A pretty impressive achievement for their first attempt! Coach Evelyn Burke will also travel as part of the delegation to the competition as Team Coach for both the Minor and Junior teams.

IRISH NATIONAL ALL AROUND CHAMPIONSHIPS – Bronze for Beth!!
Yesterday saw 8 of our National Level gymnasts compete at the Irish National All Around finals held in Janz Gymnastics, Sandyford, Dublin.
In the senior competition Beth Gillmor had a strong competition to bag her first ever All Around medal coming in 3rd place. She nailed her tucked tsukahara vault and performed an impressive double twisting somersault on floor to help her to bronze. Ali Kavanagh was not far behind her in 4th while Julie Sadlier who was guesting at the competition would have come in overall 6th and Ciara Nixon in 7th. The girls had some very strong performances with Ali and Julie both adding upgrades to their beam routines and Ciara having a much improved bar set from previous competition.
At junior level Elaine Hayden came in 4th with strong performances on both Vault and Bars and upgrades on beam adding a switch leap to her routine.
Our newest National level gymnasts also had a great competition in the minor age group. Shauna Kelly came in 5th, Lauren Reddy 6th and Katie O’Hara 8th. All of the girls showed upgrades on beam with Katie performing an aerial cartwheel, Lauren adding a tuck back and Shauna adding a switch leap. Lauren and Shauna also upgraded on vault. This was a very encouraging competition for the minors and they are growing in confidence with each performance.
Congratulations to all gymnasts and coaches on a fantastic day. Next competition for our National gymnasts will be the Apparatus finals on 20th May where we will hopefully come away with even more success!
2012 Irish National Squad Members
Its official!!! Old Bawn have qualified FOUR gymnasts to the Irish National Squad for 2012!!
On the senior squad we will be represented by Beth Gillmor who has been a squad member since 2008, and Ali Kavanagh who has made a remarkable recovery following a bad injury last year and regained her position on the squad. On the minor squad we will be represented by Katie O’Hara and Shauna Kelly both of whom only moved up to full FIG competition this year! This is a fantastic achievement for the 4 girls and for the club.

Hi Everyone,
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas break! Our classes will resume in the new year as follows:

Looking forward to seeing you all in January!
National Teams Competition 2011
8 gymnasts from Old Bawn competed at last Sundays National Teams competition. Each year the top teams in Ireland compete for this title. Old Bawn performed great and only narrowly missed out on the bronze by just a mark, bettering the bronze medal team on three apparatus. Unfortunatly some uncharacteristic errors on beam kept them from the podium.
However this competition is also a qualifier for selection to the Irish National Squad and also for National All Around and Apparatus Finals. Due to the strong individual performances of our 8 gymnasts, we are very hopeful that the girls will be well represented at both. Watch this space!!
Gymnasts who represented Old Bawn:
Beth Gillmor
Ali Kavanagh
Ciara Nixon
Julie Sadlier
Elaine Hayden
Lauren Reddy
Shauna Kelly
Katie O’Hara
Beth competes at Northern Europeans 2011
The Irish delegation arrived home from Uppsala in Sweden this morning after attending the 2011 Northern European Championships. We are delighted to report that Beth from Old Bawn had a very solid competition, landing 2 strong tsukahara vaults and a clean floor routine. The Irish contingent also had some success on the podium with Anthony O’Donnell from the men’s team making 3 apparatus finals and achieving bronze on floor. A great achievement and hopefully a sign of things to come for Gymnastics Ireland.
