2012 Irish National Squad Members

Its official!!! Old Bawn have qualified FOUR gymnasts to the Irish National Squad for 2012!!

On the senior squad we will be represented by Beth Gillmor who has been a squad member since 2008, and Ali Kavanagh who has made a remarkable recovery following a bad injury last year and regained her position on the squad.  On the minor squad we will be represented by Katie O’Hara and Shauna Kelly both of whom only moved up to full FIG competition this year! This is a fantastic achievement for the 4 girls and for the club.

We have finally received official qualification lists for the Irish National All Around and Apparatus finals…. and the Old Bawn girls have done FANTASTIC!!!  Each one of the 8 girls who entered National Teams in December has earned a place in at least one of the finals.  This will be the biggest representation for the club at National finals to date.  Brilliant Job girls.

Christmas Club Competitions 2011

All recreational competitions will take place during gymnasts’ normal class time.  Competitive Squad competition will take place from 11am to 2pm on Sunday 18th.
Venue for all competitions will be Old Bawn Community School Hall.
Best of luck to all, Cant wait to see your performances!!!!

National Teams Competition 2011

8 gymnasts from Old Bawn competed at last Sundays National Teams competition.   Each year the top teams in Ireland compete for this title.  Old Bawn performed great and only narrowly missed out on the bronze by just a mark, bettering the bronze medal team on three apparatus.  Unfortunatly some uncharacteristic errors on beam kept them from the podium.

However this competition is also a qualifier for selection to the Irish National Squad and also for National All Around and Apparatus Finals.  Due to the strong individual performances of our 8 gymnasts, we are very hopeful that the girls will be well represented at both.  Watch this space!!

Gymnasts who represented Old Bawn:
Beth Gillmor
Ali Kavanagh
Ciara Nixon
Julie Sadlier
Elaine Hayden
Lauren Reddy
Shauna Kelly
Katie O’Hara

The Irish delegation arrived home from Uppsala in Sweden this morning after attending the 2011 Northern European Championships. We are delighted to report that Beth from Old Bawn had a very solid competition, landing 2 strong tsukahara vaults and a clean floor routine. The Irish contingent also had some success on the podium with Anthony O’Donnell from the men’s team making 3 apparatus finals and achieving bronze on floor. A great achievement and hopefully a sign of things to come for Gymnastics Ireland.

Following last months trials, we are delighted to announce that Beth Gillmor will travel as part of the Republic of Ireland team to the Northern European competition in Sweden on 11/12 November.  She will compete on floor and vault for the team.  Coach Evelyn Burke will also travel as one of the national team coaches for the competition.  Congratulations Beth, we are all very proud of you!

2011-2012 Season

Hi All,

It’s that time of year again!! Our 2011-2012 season will commence on 3rd September 2011.

Over the summer months our competitive squads have continued training hard. July saw 15 of our gymnasts travel to The Scottish training centre in Largs for a week long intensive training camp.

In August our 5 senior gymnasts and coaches Evelyn, Andrea and Rachel travelled further afield to Pennsylvania to attend the International Gymnastics Camp. An amazing experience for all.

Now we are excited to begin our new season!! We hope you all had a nice and relaxing summer and look forward to welcoming everyone back next weekend!!!

International Gymnastics Camp!!

At the beginning of August our 5 senior gymnasts Ali, Beth, Julie, Ciara and Elaine along with coaches Andrea, Evelyn and Rachel, travelled to the International Gymnastics Camp in Pennsylvania.

Through the course of the week, the gymnasts had the privilege of being coached by Svetlana Boguinskaia (former Olympic Champion), Jana Bieger (World Cup winner & USA national team), Andrea Bieger (former Olympian) and Abie Grossfeld (former Olympian & Olympic team coach). They also got to meet Paul Hamm (2004 Olympic Champion) who is currently training to try make the 2012 USA team.

Apart from the amazing gymnastics, the camp life experience, recreational activities and entertainment provided by the staff at IGC throughout the week was fantastic.

This was a very exciting trip for all involved and an experience that we won’t forget for a long time!!
