Irish National Apparatus Finals 2012
Yesterday saw the final competition of this season for our gymnasts with the Irish National Apparatus finals. Old Bawn had five gymnasts representing the club on various apparatus.
In the minor competition Shauna Kelly and Katie O’Hara competed on Beam and Floor. Both girls had a great competition. On beam Shauna landed a very solid clean routine for the silver medal and Katie added 3 new upgrades to her routine with a side somersault, an aerial cartwheel and switch leap to help her to bronze. On floor both girls had clean routines and personal best scores. Katie’s 10.7 was good enough for the bronze medal.
In the senior competition Julie Sadlier, Ali Kavanagh and Beth Gillmor competed. Julie performed well on her only event – vault, with 2 tidy vaults. Beth landed a great tsukahara for the bronze medal. On bars Ali achieved silver and Beth bronze. On beam Ali’s continual upgrades helped her into bronze medal position. Both Ali and Beth performed and expressed their dance beautifully on floor, with clean tumbles they shared the silver medal.
This was a fantastic way to end the season for the girls. Over the summer months we will hope to keep increasing the skill level and unveil some new tricks for next year. Congratulations girls!

Celtic Cup 2012
A massive well done to all of the Irish team and of course our four Old Bawn gymnasts who competed at last weekends Celtic Cup competition. The girls had some really fantastic performances on the day and we are very proud of all of them. For our minors, Shauna Kelly and Katie O’Hara, it was their first time representing Ireland and by far their biggest competition to date. They held their nerve very well under the pressure with only a couple of minor errors. Shauna competed a full twist on the floor and tuck back on the beam for the first time which was a great achievment. F
or our juniors, Ali Kavanagh and Beth Gillmor, it was their last chance to compete at Celtic Cup – next year they will be age ineligible. Both girls pulled off some really nice performances landing tsuk vaults and clean bar routines. Beth achieved a personal best score on beam (10.8) with her rock solid routine that impressed the home crowd.
It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces in the audience and a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support all our wonderful Irish gymnasts. The atmosphere at the competition was warm and encouraging and hopefully now the girls can continue to improve and increase their skill level for the next competition which will be the Irish National Apparatus finals in May.
Well done to all involved.

IRISH NATIONAL ALL AROUND CHAMPIONSHIPS – Bronze for Beth!!
Yesterday saw 8 of our National Level gymnasts compete at the Irish National All Around finals held in Janz Gymnastics, Sandyford, Dublin.
In the senior competition Beth Gillmor had a strong competition to bag her first ever All Around medal coming in 3rd place. She nailed her tucked tsukahara vault and performed an impressive double twisting somersault on floor to help her to bronze. Ali Kavanagh was not far behind her in 4th while Julie Sadlier who was guesting at the competition would have come in overall 6th and Ciara Nixon in 7th. The girls had some very strong performances with Ali and Julie both adding upgrades to their beam routines and Ciara having a much improved bar set from previous competition.
At junior level Elaine Hayden came in 4th with strong performances on both Vault and Bars and upgrades on beam adding a switch leap to her routine.
Our newest National level gymnasts also had a great competition in the minor age group. Shauna Kelly came in 5th, Lauren Reddy 6th and Katie O’Hara 8th. All of the girls showed upgrades on beam with Katie performing an aerial cartwheel, Lauren adding a tuck back and Shauna adding a switch leap. Lauren and Shauna also upgraded on vault. This was a very encouraging competition for the minors and they are growing in confidence with each performance.
Congratulations to all gymnasts and coaches on a fantastic day. Next competition for our National gymnasts will be the Apparatus finals on 20th May where we will hopefully come away with even more success!
